It can be difficult to find a new door knocker with the same BC dimension. Especially if the original one has been there for many years. There is no standard for the BC dimension. The BC for the most part is determined by the design of the knocker. The mounting lugs used to attach the hardware are usually placed at a thicker portion of the casting. This is to give them more strength. Sometimes you have to settle for a replacement that is close. If the two BCs are within 1/4 or 3/8 inch of each other you can usually enlarge the holes in the door a bit to make the fit. If you are lucky the existing mounting hardware will cover the enlarged holes.
The simple or elegant door knockers would somehow transform the entire appearance of their doorways and entryways. There are a lot of different designs and styles of knockers that are available on line in which you could choose from. Just like any other home furnitures the purpose of chrome door knockers is not only to relay to the people inside that someone is coming but at the same time to enhance the appearance of your doorway and provide additional attraction. The structural design of the knockers is made up of two parts. The first part was fixed to the door and the other part which was attached by a hinge and used to strike a plate fitted to the door or to the door itself which help the occupants to know that someone is outside.

The finish should match the rest of the hardware. Door knockers not only come in many finishes they are available in many types of metal. The most stable metal and probably the most common is brass. Brass is easy to machine and cast into shapes. It polishes into a bright gold like finish or satins easily and is easy to maintain. Brass also electroplates readily. This allows it to be nickel or copper plated to simulate pewter and bronze finishes. Because brass is non ferrous it will not rust. It will tarnish though for this reason a good lacquer finish is needed or your purchase will look terrible in a very short time.
